EMDR Basic Training is designed for mental health professionals who meet specific educational and licensing requirements. Below are the categories of individuals who qualify to enroll:

EMDR Training Requirements & Eligibility

You are eligible if you meet one of the following criteria:

  • Medical Doctors: Must be licensed to practice in their state or province.
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs): Must have a Master of Science in Nursing (or higher) specializing in psychiatric mental health and hold a valid license.
  • Mental Health Clinicians: Must have a master’s degree in a mental health field (e.g., Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, Psychiatry, Social Work) and be fully licensed to practice.

Note: Individuals with only a chemical dependency or substance abuse license do not qualify, as these do not include a mental health scope of practice.

Licensed Mental Health Professionals

Graduate students may be eligible if they meet all of the following criteria:
  • Enrolled in a master’s or doctoral program in a mental health field (e.g., Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, Psychiatry, Psychiatric Nursing, Social Work).
  • Have completed core academic coursework and are currently in the practicum or internship phase of their program. (First-year graduate students are not eligible.)
  • Are on a licensing track and working under the supervision of a fully licensed mental health clinician.

Additional Documentation Required:

Graduate students must provide verification of eligibility, including:
  • Graduate transcript
  • Practicum/internship details
  • A letter from their supervisor with licensing information

Note: Students do not need to submit documents to EMDRIA unless specifically requested but should provide them to the training provider during registration.
