These simple steps allow therapists like you to unlock EMDR skills to deepen your work with clients. 

  1. Review eligibility 
    Please note that requirements differ for licensed mental health professionals, graduate students, and pre-licensed therapists. 
  2. Register for a training workshop
    Choose from 5-Day or 2 Weekend training either in person or online.
  3. Take the workshop
    With Coast to Coast, you'll enjoy dynamic training led by our team of passionate, EMDR Certified therapists.
  4. Complete your 10 hours of consultation
    This final step ensures your EMDR skills are being put to use effectively with hands-on, expert-led guidance. 

For therapists who complete the course and all four of these steps, you will receive a Certificate of Completion for the workshop portion granting the 40 hours of continuing education via email within 30 days. After you complete your 10 hours of consultation, you will receive another certificate via email stating you have completed the full requirements for completion of the EMDRIA approved EMDR Training.

First, You'll Learn the Foundations of EMDR.
  • We will cover and in-depth EMDR definition and summarize its history and origins.
  • We'll explain the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model.
  • Utilize the AIP model in case conceptualization and treatment planning.
  • Identify research findings supporting EMDR’s efficacy.
  • Differentiate which clients and issues benefit from EMDR.

EMDR Basic Training Learning Objectives

Next, We'll Cover Clinical Assessment & Preparation
  • You'll learn how to identify and assess client readiness.
  • We'll cover how to create a safe environment for disclosing traumatic events.
  • Together we will identify five trauma-based components in a clinical history for EMDR.
  • Recognize and identify target events for EMDR processing.
  • Identify five types of Resource Development.
With any EMDR Basic Training Course the goal is for you to learn foundational EMDR principles and begin practicing your skill comfortably and accurately so you can bring this new approach to your clients day-to-day.
Then, Comes EMDR Protocol & Techniques
  • We'll list and describe the eight phases of the EMDR protocol.Employ skills in using all phases of the EMDR protocol.
  • Apply techniques, including cognitive interweave, to address blocking, looping, and other processing challenges.
  • Describe strategies for dealing with abreaction.
  • Exhibit different strategies for closing incomplete sessions.
Finally, We'll Cover Special Considerations
& Ethical Practice

  • Recognize professional, legal, and ethical issues in employing EMDR.
  • Identify protocols for working with special issues.
  • Identify strategies for working with specific populations.
  • Recognize dissociative disorders and assess the appropriateness of EMDR for this population.
